A LOVING brother is preparing to tackle the gruelling London Marathon for the third time to raise funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society after watching his siblings battle the disease for a number of years.
Mike Chart will pound London’s pavements for the first time in ten years next Sunday (April 24) in the hope of raising £1,500 for the charity which fights to improve treatment and care and to help people with MS take control of their lives.
Both of Mike’s brothers, Dave and Bob, suffer from the neurological condition which affects around 100,000 people in the UK.
Younger brother David, aged 52, has been afflicted by the debilitating condition since he was in his late 20s while Bob, who is 55, was diagnosed four years ago.
Mike, who lives in Brockhill, said he feels ‘so fortunate’ to be fit and healthy and to be able to participate in the marathon when his brothers face such health issues.
He added: “Both of my brothers are an inspiration to me and so many other folk – they face their daily problems and difficulties with good grace and often help others.
“I want to make sure I get the most out of life and make the most of what I have got.”
The 53-year-old said he completed his last marathon in around four hours, smashing his personal best from his first attempt, but will be happy to just finish this course this time around.
He joked: “My target is just to finish, ideally on the same day.”
