BUDDING athletes at Birchensale Middle School scooped top prize in the Worcestershire Virtual School Games recently.

The school excelled in the county’s pentathlon competition, finishing first overall.

“We decided to make indoor athletics one of the first topics to be covered this year to allow pupils to be active while socially distanced” said head of PE Amie Gatfield.

“It is a huge achievement for Birchensale to experience this success despite such a strange and difficult time.

“We are very proud of our county winning pentathlon teams.”

Birchensale pupils were recognized for their commitment to sport.

Tracy Freer, who helped organise the games, said she was thrilled to see the school win because its hard work was evident.

All 133 Birchensale pupils who took part received medals and t-shirts.

The PE department received £200 to spend towards sports provision at Birchensale.
