A SUM close to £145,000 has been earmarked to carry out enhancement work for residents around Redditch by the borough council’s executive committee.
The money, receipts paid by developers to the borough council, will be spent on three facilities in Astwood Bank, one in Matchborough and another in the town centre.
The largest sum – £75,000 – will go towards the £275,000 already earmarked by the authority for improvements to the pedestrianised area of Alcester Street, from the ring road underpass up to the market area.
This increased sum will be added to the £500,000 already allocated by Worcestershire County Council for the project which is expected to start at the end of January 2017.
In addition more than £30,000 has been earmarked to improve the skate park on the corner of Sambourne Lane and Evesham Road in Astwood Bank.
This would see the introduction of solid concrete ramps – following complaints from residents over the noise from the existing metal ones – which would also remove the potential for anti-social behaviour from youngsters congregating underneath the existing ones.
A further £4,005 would be provided for the outdoor gym at the same location and £5,645 to improve Overdale Park in Overdale Road, Astwood Bank.
Meanwhile in Matchborough a sum of £29,372 has been earmarked to improve play facilities, work which will be carried out in conjunction with the planned regeneration project of the centre there.
“It’s good that we are releasing this money which will hopefully make a difference and improve these areas,@ said Councillor John Fisher (Lab, M’boro).
The committee’s recommendations will now go through to full council for approval.
