CREATIVE youngsters at The Vaynor First School shared their love of reading – and dressing up – on World Book Day last week.
Both pupils and staff came to school last Thursday (March 2) dressed up as their favourite book characters to enjoy a themed day celebrating stories and books.
They children were also challenged to create a book float to celebrate their favourite book as part of the festivities.
Jo Downing, EYFS & English leader, stated: “The children’s creations were extremely impressive from Reception all the way up to Year Four.
“They have worked so hard and with the support of their parents, they really did themselves proud. It was inspiring to listen to the children talk about their chosen story and how they had designed their book float.
“The children enjoyed sharing stories in role as the characters they portrayed and it reinforced the sheer enjoyment of reading and the many adventures that a book can take a child’s imagination on.”

BIRCHENSALE Middle School celebrated the 20th year of World Book Day in style.
Both students and staff dressed up in a variety of costumes depicting their favourite book characters
Each pupil also received one of the £1 World Book Day Tokens to encourage them with their reading.
The tokens can either be exchanged for one of ten special £1 World Book Day books or used to get £1 off any book costing £2.99 or more.
Miss Laura Ridgewell, Head of English at the school said: ‘’It is great that we are dressing up for ‘World Book Day’ this year. It has meant that we are having conversations with pupils about the characters they are dressing up as and allowing them to hear about new and different books too.
‘’Without even realising it, they are recommending books to each other and it has created a real buzz around school. I’m looking forward to next year already.’’
