Call for action after another town centre window smashed by vandals

YOBS have smashed shop windows in Redditch town centre for the third weekend running.

Staff from the British Heart Foundation, located outside Kingfisher shopping centre, came in on Monday morning to see one of their plate glass window had been broken again.

This was the second time the charity has been targeted in the last few weeks although staff remained tight-lipped over this latest incident.

The vandalism follows a pattern of attacks which has hit businesses along Church Green West, Unicorn Hill, Evesham Walk and Market Place.

Last week it was Three Cooks Bakery which was counting the cost of town centre yobs.

Owner Tim Cangaj said: “My business will have to shut down if this keeps happening because I cannot afford to keep repairing the windows.

“It is coming out of my own pocket and is not a cheap fix.”

Business owners along the vandalised street have organised a petition calling for more and better Police patrols to protect their shops, particularly at weekends.

They are calling for a town centre patrol and would ideally like a police van parked on the corner of Church Green to help secure their premises.

After last week’s vandalism Mark Chappell, Police Neighbourhood Inspector for Redditch, said: “We will do everything we can to investigate these crimes.

“I will be checking the CCTV in the area because we really want to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”
