A RESIDENT in Northleach Close in Redditch has called on police to do more to combat vandals plaguing her local area.
The woman, who did not want to be named, had the passenger side window of her car smashed on December 18 while her vehicle was parked in a car park at the end of the street.
The damage took two weeks to repair and, when it was brought back, the same thing happened again.
She told the Standard: “It’s not just me who has fallen victim – I have spoken to at least eight of my neighbours whose cars have suffered the same fate.”
She added the incidents – on the two weeks they happened – had consistently taken place overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday.
“The holes they made were not big enough to gain access so we know they were not out to steal the car or anything from it – it was just mindless vandalism.”
She said, despite stepping up security by putting cameras in the car, the incidents had caused her anxiety.
“You find yourself not wanting to go to sleep as you worry you may wake up and find it has happened again.
Stepping up patrols
Police have stepped up patrols and have made residents in the area aware of the force’s Neighbourhood Matters messaging system and delivered letters to homes in the street to ask witnesses or anyone with CCTV or video doorbell footage to get in touch.
Sgt Craig Osborne said: “We’re aware of a number of reports of vandalism to cars in the Northleach Close area over the last couple of months and our enquiries into these offences are ongoing.”
“We’ve increased patrols in the local area, and have worked with the local community safety partnership who are undertaking some landscaping work and adding a new metal street light covering the area.”
Witnesses or anyone with information to the incidents should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
