A WYTHALL couple are taking on the role of good Samaritans – desperately trying to reunite a photograph of a soldier found tucked inside a book, with its rightful owner.

Mr and Mrs Boneham discovered the creased and torn photo of a young man in military uniform hidden between the pages of a copy of Sidney Sheldon’s ‘The Sounds of Time’ that they picked up at The Slough car boot sale over the summer.

The couple purchased the book back on July 5 but only came across the photograph a little while ago.

“We think it may possibly be from the WWI era due to the style of the uniform,” said Mr Boneham. “It may be someone’s relative so we are trying to do the right thing and reunite him with his family members.”

The photograph carries what seems to be a telephone number on the back of it – REDDITCH 67782 – is scrawled on its reverse with pencil but when the Boneham’s tried to dial the number it is no longer in service.

The couple fear the image may have been kept inside the book for safekeeping and its owner forgot to take it out when donating it to the car boot sale.

“It seems a shame to just throw it away,” added Mrs Boneham. “We would like to see it returned to its rightful owner if possible.”

Anyone who recognises the photograph or thinks they may know the rightful owner should call The Standard on 01527 588613.
