A CHARITY which worked hard to establish a home in Redditch has launched an appeal for a new base in the borough after being forced to leave its premises.
NewStarts extended its vision of having a site in the town to also include creating a space where other charities and organisations could come together to provide essential services and support to local individuals and families.
Earlier this year, that dream of a ‘charity department store’ seemed within reach when NewStarts was offered the old Argos site on the Abbey Retail Estate.
The opportunity came through Community Spaces, an organisation dedicated to sourcing commercial properties for charities, community organisations, and start-ups.
In early September, NewStarts opened its doors at this new location.
Joining NewStarts was the Bromsgrove and Redditch Baby Bank, the Redditch Uniform Bank, The Healing Horse Sanctuary, the Worcestershire Nappy Library, and Spikes Bikes.
The set-up was warmly received by the community, with families appreciating the convenience of dropping off and picking up baby items and school uniforms, browsing NewStarts and The Healing Horse Sanctuary and buying affordable bikes.
But, under the terms of the lease, NewStarts and its partners were asked to vacate the premises by December 1 and this unexpected turn of events has left many regular customers and visitors disappointed.
NewStarts is now actively searching for a new location. The ideal premises would be large, affordable, well-located, and easily accessible.
The charity is now urging any potential landlords which have a suitable space or own a property which fits NewStarts’ description and requirements to get in touch.
NewStarts, which has operated successfully in Bromsgrove for more than 18 years, wants to assure potential landlords it is an excellent tenant.
Anyone who can help should contact NewStarts directly by emailing Marion Kenyon at [email protected] or by calling 01527 882410.
