Cancer patient Ron's Elvis gig was one for the money - for Macmillan

ELVIS was in the building at the Massalla Club at a special Elvis tribute night – raising vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

And a great night was had by all too with local companies donating raffle prizes and together raising £874 on the night.

Underneath the wig was long time Elvis fan and impersonator Ron Hill who chose the big hearted charity after being diagnosed with bowel and liver cancer.

And he’s so grateful for the support he’s had from nurses at the Garden Suite in Kidderminster and district nurses that he’s planning a second night at the Massalla as a thank you to them too.

“I used to do Elvis at the Champagne Express restaurant on Unicorn Hill when Abdullah Ullah was there,” said the former painter and decorator who moonlighted as a DJ too.

“Me and another friend and DJ Jon Hurstbourne and Abdullah we’d go out for meals and one night we ended up at the Massalla.

“I said what I wanted to do and Abdullah had a word with the gaffer and it went from there.

“I’ve been an Elvis fan all my life, so many great songs, impossible to put them in any sort of order,” he said.

Ron, aged 62 and from Greenlands – ‘the nearest I’ll ever get to Graceland’ – was diagnosed with bowel cancer last year, which has now spread to his liver.

Despite this and the exhausting effects of the chemotherapy, Ron was determined to do his bit for Macmillan.

Throughout his illness Ron has been supported by his wife Lesley and daughters Chantelle and Charlene and now plans to go one step further for district nurses and the staff at the Garden Suite.

Worcestershire Macmillan champion and Redditch resident Sonia Tudor said: “What a guy, and a lovely bloke too, and he’s thinking of doing another one.

“An amazing man who deserves our support.”
