Candidate takes action over cost of cladding

AN impromptu meet the voters trip into Greenlands has ended with Ukip parliamentary candidate for Redditch Peter Jewell writing to the managing director of energy giant E.ON.

“The discussion got on to the fitting of cladding insulation by E.ON and there appeared to be a huge variation in prices being charged for work on identical properties, which seemed extraordinary to me.” said Mr Jewell.

“Word quickly spread amongst the residents and in the end I was addressing between 26 to 30 people – I could have done with a soapbox to stand on.” he added.

“As a result of this I have written to the managing director of E.ON to find out exactly what is going on here.”

An E.ON spokesperson said: “We have been contracted to deliver the Green Deal Communities project on behalf of Worcestershire County Council and while there is a cost to households the funding offers residents significant reductions to the cost of installing solid wall insulation.

“The amount households pay towards the installation of solid wall insulation is dependent on the level of funding available as agreed by Worcestershire Council and the Department of Energy and Climate Change. E.ON does not set these funding rules but simply follows them to ensure households can understand what financial support is available to them so they can make an informed decision.”
