A RESIDENT of an Alcester care home attended the Championship Playoff Final match last weekend.
Joe Coburn is a lifelong fan of Coventry City Football Club.
He first went to see them play in 1963 and he was a season ticket holder for many years following them through all their ups and downs so when they succeeded in reaching the Championship Playoff Final at Wembley Stadium Joe was desperate to be there to see it.
The staff at Cherry Trees were determined to make it happen for him.
Joe was able to secure tickets to the match and he was supported to attend by Sally Ashford-Devey, activities lead and Greg Wilk, head of maintenance who drove the minibus there and back.
Joe was able to soak up the atmosphere of being at such a big match and although in the end the result didn’t go Coventry’s way, Joe still had a day that he will never forget.
He said: “I am so grateful to the staff for making it possible for me to be there. I will never forget it.”
General manager Debbie Osborne said “It is so important that people are supported to continue with their hobbies and interests when they enter a care home and so when Joe was successful in getting tickets for the match there was no question about it, he had to be there.
“Our staff work incredibly hard to make sure that our residents are able to enjoy these important moments which make such a difference to their well-being.”
