Free rides offered to e-scooter customers getting Covid-19 tests in Redditch

Harry Leach 14th Feb, 2021

E-SCOOTER provider Bird is giving free rides to people in Redditch if they are heading to get a lateral flow Covid-19 test.

The offer will run until the end of February for anyone visiting the Town Hall or the County Pharmacy for their tests.

Rapid-turnaround lateral flow tests are a new type of technology, which provide results within an hour, and are being used to proactively test people who do not have symptoms.

Around one in three people who are infected with Covid-19 have no symptoms and could be spreading the disease without knowing it.

Bird said its staff ensure the e-scooters are sanitised on a daily basis to help combat the spread of the virus.

Charlotte Bailey, Bird’s General Manager for the UK, said: “At Bird we want to help communities get back on their feet as quickly as possible following this pandemic.

“By offering free rides for people getting covid tests we hope we can play our part in stopping the spread of this virus.

“Scooters are a great way to get around while avoiding other more crowded transport options.

“We have also started adding hand sanitiser to the scooters to make sure people remain as safe as possible.”
