LET there be light! The big Christmas lights switch on is happening in Studley this evening (Friday, November 25) and there’s loads going on for everyone to enjoy.
This year Studley village will be lit up by a stunning 54 Christmas Lights.
All lights have been purchased and installed thanks to generous donations and sponsorship from the community and fund-raising throughout the year by volunteers
The switch-on Event starts at 2pm in the afternoon with Christmas market with stalls from Studley businesses and community groups.
At 5.30pm hundreds of children from the village gather for the popular Lantern Parade, through the village and up The High Street, to Studley Village Hall, where everyone then assembles for the formal switch-on at 6.30pm.
Leading the big countdown will be double Commonwealth medal winner Sophia Potter, a representative from McCarthy Stone, and Studley Parish Council Chairman Colin Summers.
Val Blundell, chairman of the Studley Christmas Light Campaign, said: “Financial support from local organisations is vital in enabling us purchase and install the village Christmas lights and to hold our popular annual Christmas light switch-on event.
“We are very grateful to McCarthy Stone for its generous sponsorship which will allow us to host a memorable and enjoyable Christmas light switch-on event for all.
“We would like to thank popular local business SIBCAS for their generous sponsorship this year of the Children’s Lantern Parade.
“Our annual children’s lantern parade through the village is an emotional and popular build up to the actual switch-on and has now become a spectacular and essential feature of the whole switch-on event.”
David Meachem, divisional sales director for McCarthy Stone, said: “The Studley Christmas light switch-on is a fantastic way to bring the community together to get everyone in the festive spirit.
“What’s more the glow of the lights ensures the spirit continues to shine throughout the Christmas period for everyone’s enjoyment, so we’re delighted to lend our support.”
