HEADLESS Cross did not disappoint on Christmas Eve when people turned out in their hundreds despite miserable weather.

“The carols take place every year on Christmas Eve at 4.30pm organised by Becky Rose and Rachel Evans, with music from the Arrow Valley Brass Band.

This year County Councillors Mike Rouse and Craig Warhurst with Coun Jo Beecham secured funding to provide lights for the trees on the green, which were put up by GS Adams.

James Hollamby from UK Events Services provided staging, lights and even a snow machine to add to the atmosphere.

The local Safer Neighbourhood policing team were also in attendance with PC Campbell and PCSO Longbottom keeping everyone safe. First aid was covered by Rapid Emergency Medical Services.

“This event was the best its ever been and wouldn’t have been possible without all these people volunteering their time,” said Rachel.

“It really was a magical evening. It only lasted around 45 minutes but the band played away, the crowd sang loudly and the rain eased off just enough for everyone to be entertained!”

The event has been taking place since December 2013 and thousands of pounds have been raised each year to support the Primrose Hospice.

This year was no exception with more than £400 in donations going to the hospice which has had its fundraising hit by the pandemic.
