Cast of Redditch Operatic Society's Evita raise £200 for Women's Aid

‘DON’T cry for me if your cake’s a disaster’ was the theme when cast members of Redditch Operatic Society’s Evita held a ‘bake off’ during rehearsals.

In all, 19 cakes were baked by members of the society, some good, some not so good and some just brilliant.

All the cakes were tasted and voted on by the cast with Paul Mitchell emerging as the winner with HIS ‘unicorn cake’.

Paul plays the singer ‘Agustin Magaldi’ in the show.

Magaldi was a real life Argentinian tango and milonga singer, nicknamed was ‘La voz sentimental de Buenos Aires’.

Paul just managed to pip runner up Sophie Grogan – who plays one of the ‘Evitas’ – with her lemon drizzle cake.

In all £200 was raised for ‘Women’s Aid’ a cause that was very dear to the heart of the famous Eva Peron (Evita), the one time First Lady of Argentina who died in 1952.

On October 29 Sophie also ran the Redditch Kingfisher 10k in aid of ‘Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust’ – Eva Peron died of cervical cancer aged just 33.

Sophie ran the 10k in 71 minutes and to date has raised £190 plus gift aid of £30 for the charity.

Evita plays at the Palace Theatre from Tuesday, November 21 to Saturday, November 25, and if it’s anything like their production of 42nd Street, it’s going to be a knockout evening.

For tickets, contact the Palace Theatre.
