Cavell Nurses smash £10K target

A REDDITCH-BASED nursing charity hopped, baked, and ran their way through October as part of a #10kForNurses fundraising campaign – and they have smashed their target.

Cavell Nurses’ Trust, based at Grosvenor House on Prospect Hill, have ensured a cash boost for nurses suffering hardship, raising more than £12,000 for the cause, and aiming to hit the £15,000 mark once all sponsorship money has been collected.

Eighty people from across the UK took on the 10k in a variety of ways from running, walking, cycling and rowing 10km, baking and selling 10k calories of cakes, sewing 10k stitches, playing 10k seconds of tennis and someone even hopped 10km on a space hopper.

Cavell Nurses’ Jorj Jarvie kick started the campaign in Redditch on October 2, taking on a 10K rowing challenge – completing it in just 49 minutes.

Rowing at Redditch’s Pure Gym, all the money she raised in sponsorship money has gone towards the charity’s total, helping them continue to give money and support to nursing professionals experiencing financial hardship across the country.

Victoria Lewis, Community Fundraising Manager, said: “The campaign has been a success and we’re delighted to announce that our current total stands at £12.9k with money coming in all the time from fundraising events. We’re expecting more in soon, and with Gift Aid added on, we hope to hit the £15,000 mark in a couple of weeks.

“It’s incredible that so many people have got behind #10kForNurses in its first year and with their combined dedication and efforts we can ensure that more vital support and help is available for UK nurses facing crisis this winter. We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has fundraised and donated.”

The idea for #10kForNurses came via WeNurses, a Twitter community dedicated to connecting nursing professionals throughout the UK.

Cavell Nurses’ Trust supports nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants across the UK, both working and retired, when they’re suffering personal or financial hardship and is striving to meet a large increase in calls for help so far in 2017, up 23 per cent on January to September last year.
