Celebrate Alcester this weekend for Heritage Open Days

Redditch Editorial 17th Sep, 2021 Updated: 1st Oct, 2021   0

CHURCHES across Alcester are opening their doors for this year’s Heritage Open Days with a range of activities for all ages and a chance to discover the story behind our historic churches and the communities they serve.

This year’s Heritage Open Days take place this weekend and are an opportunity to celebrate our heritage, community and history.

Coun Susan Juned said: “Five properties are open across Alcester, Alcester Baptist Church, Alcester War Memorial Town Hall, Church House, St Nicholas Church and the Roman Alcester Museum.

“If people visit any of the properties they can get a map to direct them around the site, and see what times the churches are open.

“Alcester War Memorial Town Hall has an exhibition of the history of the town hall, and photographs of Alcester taken from VE Day just after the war.”

Heritage Open Days is coordinated and promoted nationally by the National Trust with support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

Every single Heritage Open Days event is free, including access to many sites that usually charge for admission.

Susan added: “I think it should be a good day because there’s lots of great things to do in Alcester and we’re going to be welcoming as many people as possible.”

Many venues will be open and offering refreshments to all visitors.
