FESTIVE price slashing delivered a welcome boost for traders as shoppers flocked to the Kingfisher Centre.
During December the centre saw an extra 8,000 customers pour through the doors compared to the same period in 2013.
Stores continued to report strong sales from Boxing Day onwards with many bargain hunters queueing up at 6am in the hope of grabbing a deal.
Debenhams, Primark and Swarovski, which has only recently arrived in the Kingfisher, have reported strong sales performance.
Irene Dunn, director at Luxury Essentials and a Swarovski partner, said: “We were encouraged by the huge investment that has been made in the Kingfisher Centre and are delighted to report that our targets have been exceeded this Christmas. We are extremely pleased with footfall figures and sales over the period and look forward to building on this success in 2015.”
Restaurants in the centre’s newly developed £2million The Hub are also reporting encouraging results.
Suhail Hasan, owner of American diner and milkshake bar Tinseltown, said: “Despite opening just before Christmas, footfall was very high and we outperformed our targets. The Kingfisher is a fantastic shopping centre and we have enjoyed getting to know our new customers. Roll on 2015.”
Centre owners Capital & Regional are putting the finishing touches to a £2.4million revamp of Evesham Walk and Worcester Square to create a new fashion zone with a host of new retailers having signed up.
Centre manager Ken Williams said they had consistently outstripped national benchmarks over Christmas.
“It has been incredibly busy and we were thrilled to see the number of people queueing up outside our stores,” he said.
“The extensive redevelopment taking place in Evesham Walk and Worcester Square is well underway and we look forward to showcasing our vibrant new shopping area when work completes in the upcoming months.”
