Chance to have your say on town centre conservation proposals

Redditch Editorial 8th Feb, 2021   0

Residents and business-owners are invited to have their say on the proposed extension of the Church Green Conservation Area as a public consultation is launched.

From for the next six weeks there is the opportunity to fill in and return a comments form on the draft conservation area appraisal and the conservation management plan.

The character appraisal identifies the factors and features which make the area special, based on an in-depth assessment of its buildings, spaces, evolution and sense of place.

The conservation management plan provides a strategy for the management of the conservation area in a way that will protect and enhance its character and appearance and support the wider regeneration of the town centre.

Proposals to extend the conservation area include bringing 5-11 Alcester Street into the area as they are in-keeping with other historic buildings not least a Grade ll Church and 19th Century public buildings.

“We want to hear from our residents and business owners so we can work together to create a Redditch of which everyone can be proud and Church Green is a vital part of our regeneration plans, and an area which is important to us to preserve,” said Borough Councillor Mike Rouse, whose portfolio covers heritage.

Council Leader Matt Dormer, whose portfolio-holder covers regeneration, said: “While this council is committed to regenerating Redditch and unlocking its full potential, we want to protect its history too.”

The draft appraisal will be found at www.redditchbc.gov.uk/ChurchGreenCA together with a comments form, which needs to be returned to [email protected] by March 19.
