Chance to hear words of peace from Satish Kumar with Redditch Rotarians

A WORLD renowned peace activist has been invited by Redditch Rotarians to talk on ‘Soil, Soul & Society in the Context of Brexit’ .

Everyone is invited to go along and listen to the wise words of Satish Kumar, star of BBC2’s Earth Pilgrim TV documentary and a previous guest on Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs.

“He provides us with a different way of thinking and seeing a problem,” said Steve Tonry, who has organised the event.

“Everyone seems very depressed at the moment but he has a more positive, aspirational way – it’s the art of the possible.”

Born in 1936 Satish Kumar is an Indian activist and a former Jain monk, nuclear disarmament advocate, pacifist, and is the current editor of Resurgence & Ecologist magazine.

Now living in England, he led a peace walk to the capitals of four of the nuclear-armed countries – Washington, London, Paris and Moscow, a trip of over 8,000 miles.

He insists that reverence for nature should be at the heart of every political and social debate. Defending criticism that his goals are unrealistic, he has said: “Look at what realists have done for us. They have led us to war and climate change, poverty on an unimaginable scale, and wholesale ecological destruction. Realism is an outdated, overplayed and wholly exaggerated concept.”

Steve added: “Humanity seems to be facing numerous crises, political, economic and environmental, to name but a few. Hence, many people can see no positive way forward but as Einstein said, “a problem cannot be solved at the same level of thinking that created it”.

“Satish Kumar provides this different way of thinking, seeing and being, providing a far more positive view, of a future to which to aspire.”

Organised by the Rotary Club of Redditch, the event is on Thursday, May 11 at 8pm at Droitwich High School, Briar Mill, Droitwich Spa, WR9 0AA.

Tickets are £6 to include tea and coffee available from Steve at [email protected] .
