PEOPLE in Redditch are invited to step out and strive for better mental health this year – kicking off with a run.
The free social run on Thursday (February 2), starting the the Foxlydiate Arms, is part of a nationwide ‘Time to Talk’ campaign to get people talking about mental health and using physical activity to help improve wellbeing.
Organised by Nicola Noél and Hannah Match, both Redditch Stars England Athletics Mental Health Ambassadors, the 6.5k night run starting at 7pm is an opportunity to get active and meet new people as well as talk about mental health.
By profession both Nicola and Hannah are also registered mental health nurses and believe that mental health and physical health are intrinsic.
Nicola said: “Physical activity is so important to mental health. It helps release stress and relieve tension as well as encourage people to meet and talk to each other.
“People living with mental health issues can often feel isolated and this event is all about breaking that down. Physical activity and making connections with new friends can play a huge part in keeping good mental health.
“As England Athletics Mental Health Ambassadors, our role is to promote good mental health within sports and advocate how physical activity can benefit.
“This run is not about being competitive – it’s about having fun, talking and helping people feel better.”
Runners should meet outside the pub at around 6.50pm and everyone is invited to stay and socialise afterwards too.
Hi-viz and head torches are advised and anyone interested in signing up can email [email protected] or [email protected] for more details.
