Charity push sees Redditch friends saddle up

TWO Redditch friends are preparing to cycle 547 miles from Chester to Chepstow – all in aid of charity.

Steven Bridge and Simon Chalk are taking on the daunting trek in August to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support  – but they are not stopping there.

The duo have also decided to attempt four Wolf runs this year to push themselves even further. The wild Wolf runs are each 10km long and involve running through obstacles, across raw natural terrain, open ground, woodland, lakes and thick mud.

Steven said: “After I did Brave the Shave last August raising £350 for Macmillan, i decided to raise the bar and really challenge myself.  I started looking into cycling the Wales coastal path, which is further than Lands End to John O’Groats.

“I put my intention on Facebook as an idea and this is when Simon got involved and offered to join me.”

The pair have named their challenge ‘Going Mental for Macmillan’ and are pushing themselves physically to the limit to help the cause.

Steven has planned the route they will cycle himself and is hoping they haven’t bitten off more than they can chew.

“We are going to be heading off from Chester and then going between the markers for the Welsh coastal path. We’ll be covering 100 miles each day for five days and then 47 miles on the final day,” he added.

The pair, supported by crew members Paul Harris and Nathan Cooper will be on the road between August 20 and August 25 to complete the cycling part of their challenge and have the final two Wolf runs planned for September and November.

In addition to the bike ride, they have been fundraising with stalls at Astwood Bank Carnival and a bush-tucker trial event to raise even more cash for the cause.

They are keeping their Facebook page updated with their activities and anyone wishing to support them can visit www.facebook.com/goingmentalfm/
