Youngsters urged to contribute to 'living in lockdown' Covid-19 time capsule

CHILDREN and young people from across Worcestershire are being urged to submit memories of living in lockdown during the Covid-19 pandemic for a special online time capsule.

It is being put together by Worcestershire Children First to capture what the younger generation’s experiences of the crisis were like.

The project is aimed at sharing stories from the every day and the memorable to the highs and lows.

Photographs, drawings, videos, crafts, paintings, music, poetry and anything else children can think of are welcome.

They can be created by individuals or with friends, youth groups or school classes.

Charlie Dickens, Worcestershire Children First’s participation and engagement manager, said:

“We have all made big changes to our lives during the Coronavirus outbreak which we could not have imagined a few months ago.

“We would like to hear how these changes have felt to children and young people across Worcestershire and what they have been doing to keep busy during this time.”

This time capsule won’t be buried.

It will be displayed online over the coming months for us all to look back on in the years to come.

The Youth Voice team is also investigating where the time capsule could be based physically once everyone can go out safely again.

Coun Marcus Hart, cabinet member for education and skills, added: “We are currently living through a momentous time that will be written about in history books.

“This virtual time capsule is great way for children and young people to creatively share their experiences and be part of history.”

Entries from children and young people are already coming in.

The team has already received poetry, paintings, drawings and even a photo board from children of all ages but wants loads more.

Pictures of creations should be emailed to [email protected] or if they are physical artworks, contact the team at that address and collection will be arranged once it is safe to do so.
