ST BEDE’S Catholic Middle School has been awarded the prestigious ‘Centre of Excellence’ status by the Inclusion Quality Mark team.

During the robust assessment process, which included meetings with a large number of staff, pupils, parents and Governors the school was highly commended for their fully inclusive practices.

In her report lead assessor Ms Kenny Frederick wrote: ‘Inclusion permeates every aspect of school policy and practice.

“A lot of thought and consideration is given to ensuring that inclusion is a whole school priority.

“Children matter here and this is clearly a child-centred school where children come first.

“Everybody I met at the school expressed their commitment to inclusion.

“They are well aware of the barriers that children face and they do everything in their power to remove those barriers.

“There is a can-do attitude that is solution focused and the school has been very successful in finding new and innovative ways to overcome those barriers.”

A spokesperson for the Studley Road school said: “The whole school community is delighted that the skill, talent, and commitment of the school’s inclusive provision has been externally validated by IQM and are now sharing their inclusive practices with other schools.”
