DOZENS of vulnerable people were helped this Christmas by a band of merry volunteers.

The Redditch Winter Shelter opened its doors for the fourth year over the festive season to help 67 people including five rough sleepers.

The shelter offered a safe and warm environment for people who might otherwise be alone and isolated, providing them with hot food, drinks and company as well as entertainment from local musicians.

Volunteer manager Sharon McCall said: “The support and help we received from local businesses, Redditch Borough Council and the fantastic people of Redditch was amazing – it never ceases to amaze us.

“We were also very blessed with wonderful volunteers who offered their time, commitment and compassion to ensure the guests were made welcome, looking after their every need so that this Christmas and New Year they each had a bit of festive cheer and company.”
