Church Green East here we come! Vintage Trax returns to centre

REDDITCH’S retro record shop is bidding a fond farewell to Headless Cross and making tracks for Redditch town centre.

After more than five years on Birchfield Road, popular record shop Vintage Trax is heading for Church Green East and the former premises of the Cycle Studio, which itself has re-located to the Enfield industrial estate.

The shop, run by Ros Sidaway and her sister Teresa Whiting, originally started out with two pop-up shops in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre in 2013 and 2014, before opening a permanent shop in Headless Cross.

The business has steadily grown over the past few years and regularly welcomes customers both local and from around the West Midlands and further afield.

“We have outgrown the current shop and have been looking for larger, affordable premises for more than a year,” said Ros.

“Then, during lockdown, we found the former Cycle Studio off Church Green East was on the market, and after just one look around, I knew it was the right place.

“With two floors, more than doubling the space currently available, it not only enables us to offer more to our customers, but also allows for more than just the two customers we can have in the shop, as we have presently, due to Covid-19 social distancing measures.”

But the move is not just about expanding the product and service offer, it’s also aimed at becoming a music hub to showcase and support local talent.

Vintage Trax will also become a base for the John Bonham Memorial Friends group, with a ‘Local Lad –Global Rock Legend’ exhibition for Bonham fans visiting the town.

“We want to play a key role in helping to regenerate our town centre, working with other independent businesses around the Church Green/Alcester Street area, to encourage people back to the old town centre,” said Ros.

The Headless Cross shop will close on Friday, August 28 with the new one, along Smallwood Passageway, opening on Friday, September 11.
