Getting to know you...Church Hill street party is a resounding success

Redditch Editorial 31st Aug, 2019   0

AN impromptu street party in Church Hill has proved a resounding success with more than 70 neighbours enjoying food and drink and getting to know each other.

It came from an idea by local resident Helen Tuite who’d seen the success of a similar event in Shirley some years before.

“In many roads people simply do not know who their neighbours are so I started asking people about a street party and the answer came back that it was a great idea so we got a committee together,” said Helen.

Held last Sunday, August 25, it brought residents from Home Meadow Lane, Northfield Close, Moorgate Close, Latchford Close and Keele Close together.

“We provided the gazebos, tables, cups, plates, serviettes and music,” added Helen.

“The theme was ‘Getting to Know your Neighbours’ – because we just don’t get the chance to speak to our neighbours any more due to having such busy lives and using social media so much.

“About 70 people came along and brought a plate of food and something to drink.

“All who came thoroughly enjoyed the event, and are keen to have another one.

“We had some leftover food which we gave to ‘Redditch Outreach Support’, who give food and supplies to local people in need.”
