Churches and Salvation Army to tackle dementia in Redditch with song

Redditch Editorial 14th Apr, 2018   0

LOCAL churches are coming together to launch a dementia-friendly singing group.

Next Thursday, April 19 Redditch Salvation Army and Emmanuel United Reformed/Methodist Church will be launching ‘Singing by Heart’, a new group for people living with dementia and their carers.

The event, at 2pm, takes place at the Salvation Army Corps base in Ipsley Street.

Linda Sayner from the Salvation Army said: “‘Singing by Heart’ is a chance to share the joy of singing with others through a mix of popular Christian and secular songs which most people would know.

“Singing really helps to make spiritual and mind connections; research has proven that music can be therapeutic for people who live with dementia.”

The group will continue to meet on the third Thursday afternoon of each month at 2pm.
