A CLIMATE Emergency ‘Task and Finish Group’ has been set up by Stratford District Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee to explore what practical steps the authority can take and how it can team-up with residents, partners and local businesses to tackle Climate Change.

Stratford district declared a Climate Emergency back in July and unlike Redditch Borough Council set themselves an ambitious target to become carbon neutral by 2030.

The group will make a series of headline recommendations before submitting its final report in January.

Recent environmental initiatives taken by the council include:

n Installing electric vehicle charging points at car parks

n Efforts to maintain the authority’s position as one of the top 10 performing councils in England for recycling and composting waste

n Joining a nationwide water bottle refill scheme to cut plastic waste

Councillor for the Alcester Town ward, Susan Juned, leader of the Liberal Democrat group and chair of the Task and Finish Group, said: “The role is to analyse what the District Council is currently doing to tackle Climate Change, what we need to do and suggest the steps needed to meet the ambitious goal of the District being carbon neutral by 2030.”

The Group wants to hear ideas from residents, businesses and local organisations on policies to tackle the Climate Emergency.
