Close shave is a tribute

THE CLIPPERS are set to be turned on a hairdresser as she pays tribute to the bravery of a customer.

Laura Maries is having her head shaved to raise money for the Garden Suite at the Alexandra Hospital which has treated her client Fiona Davidson for the last seven years.

Winyates resident Laura told the Standard she thought it would be good to give something back and show Fiona how much she meant to everyone at Cutting Edge salon in Church Hill.

“Fiona is a close friend to all of us. We have put the event on Facebook and making posters and getting a good response, so it is nice to know people are making the effort to donate a bit of money.”

She added she had already raised £200 and hoped to reach £1,000 before 3.30pm on Saturday, December 13, when the headshave would take place. A cake sale will help add to the funds on Wednesday, December 10, in Church Hill District Centre.

Fiona said: “I wasn’t expecting it so I was a bit shocked as Laura is only 20 and it is a lovely thing for a young girl like that to say I’d inspired her.

“It touches your heartstrings a little and I didn’t really know what to say. I am very proud of her.

“I have been going to the unit for the last seven years for my chemotherapy and blood transfusions and the nurses there have looked after me brilliantly.”

Salon owner Zoe Gardner added: “I think Laura is really brave for doing it. Fiona is a good friend and client and deserves to have this recognition.”
