Closely fought Studley byelection sees winner squeeze home by 9 votes

NEIL Edden has been chosen to represent Studley South on the parish council following a closely fought byelection.

Councillor Edden squeezed home by just nine votes with 207 ahead of Zoe Tolley with 198 and Chris Pilkington third on 89.

Out of an electorate of 2,570 the turnout was 19.3 per cent with just 496 votes cast.

The byelection had been triggered by the resignation of Karen Sumner-Brown from the council due to ill health.

When a vacancy occurs on a parish council it is possible for members of the authority to seek applicants and then choose the one they feel most suitable.

However on this occasion ten residents exercised their democratic right and called for an election to be held.

Coun Edden’s campaign centred on efforts to reduce the number and speed of juggernauts and other traffic passing through the village on the A435.
