Club hands over lifesaving bleed kits to two halls

THE CHANCES of surviving a catastrophic bleed injury has improved for residents living in two Worcestershire districts, thanks to the actions of Redditch Inner Wheel.

Members of the club recently donated two bleed control kits which contain essential equipment for trauma management at The Bridge Church Community Hall Evesham Road, Redditch, and Kington and Dormston Village Hall.

This vital piece of kit allows a bystander or trained medic with the means to immediately control life-threatening external haemorrhaging.

Both have been placed inside defibrillator cabinets already positioned at both locations and have been registered with West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The lifesaving equipment was sourced from The Daniel Baird Foundation which was established after Daniel, 26, was fatally stabbed in Digbeth, Birmingham in July 2017.

Daniel died shortly after arriving in hospital due to severe blood loss which might have been avoided if there had been a publicly accessible bleeding control pack available.

Liz Ostroumoff, from Inner Wheel of Redditch, told the Standard both she and other members had heard about the importance of having this kind of specialised equipment accessible to communities from Daniel’s mother Lynne Baird, who was a speaker at one of their national conferences.

She said: “We listened to her talk about the foundation set up in Daniel’s name and the vital need for these kits.

“As we’d previously donated defibrillators in these locations it seemed fitting to place them there.”
