REDDITCH Borough Council has teamed up with partners and organisations to put on a free event with a common goal – to beat Blue Monday.
Working with Rubicon Leisure and Redditch United Football Club, the Tackling Mental Health Together event aims to provide a safe space for residents to explore the support available to them.
There will be talks from The Mind Loft and Koala Tree CIC and active sessions including Walking Football and Just Breathe Yoga and Wellbeing.
Rubicon Leisure’s own Martin Carver will speak about cancer rehab and the health bus will be there, along with other partners being on hand to offer support and guidance including MIND, Macmillan and Ahead of Well-being.
It falls on January 20 which is considered nationally as being the most depressing day of the year, nationally factoring in the weather and the post-Christmas lull.
Redditch Borough Council’s portfolio-holder for community services Coun Monica Stringfellow said: “We recognise at times life can be challenging for some of our residents, their family and friends and we want to not only showcase the help and support which is available – but to make it easily accessible.
“Learning new relaxation techniques and becoming more active also can help with increasing wellbeing and this is a great opportunity to explore all of these things.”
Tackling Mental Health Together is being held at Redditch United Football Club from 11.30am to 3.30pm on January 20.
Redditch Borough Council leader, Coun Joe Baker, said: “Mental Health does not discriminate and affects us all even if not directly.
“We have so many groups and organisations across the borough which are committed to making a difference and as a council and I personally, want to support this.”
Spaces on ‘Tackling Mental Health Together’ are limited.
