Colleagues lament the loss of long serving county councillor

Redditch Editorial 9th Apr, 2022   0

A LONG serving county councillor for Redditch, Philip Gretton, has died.

Philip, who represented the Redditch South ward from 2001-16, served as cabinet member for adult social care and communities from 2005 to 2012 and was a valued member at County Hall, holding many key positions throughout his political career, before stepping down due to ill-health.

Redditch Independent Councillor Juliet Brunner, herself a former county councillor and former leader of the Conservative group on Redditch Borough Council said: “Philip was held in high esteem by his colleagues and as cabinet member for adult services championed his portfolio.

“He was an enthusiastic campaigner and very much enjoyed meeting residents and discussing politics.

“A true Conservative stalwart and gentleman, he will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.”

Last week’s cabinet meeting at County Hall held a one minute silence for Philip with tributes planned for the next full council meeting.

His funeral service was at Our Lady & St Joseph Catholic Church, Alcester, B49 5DY on Monday, April 4.

Donations were invited for the PSP Association, either through the funeral directors Thomas Brothers, Redditch, B97 5JF or via https://pspassociation.org.uk/
