A DOCTORS surgery in Redditch town centre has been given the all-clear after temporarily shutting down due to a coronavirus alert.
ELGAR House Doctors Surgery went into temporary lockdown at around 3.30pm when a patient feared they had inadvertently contaminated the surgery.
However a spokesman for Redditch and Bromsgrove Clinical Commissioning Group said that Public Health England had confirmed there was no risk as that patient’s symptoms were not consistent with coronavirus.
Patients and relatives were left standing outside the Church Road premises in Redditch town centre after the emergency measure was put in place.
One man said his wife had only gone in to make an appointment and was now stuck inside with the doors locked and feared she may have gone into a potentially hazardous environment.
However his concern turned to relief after the surgery was given the all clear.
He said: “The surgery has got the all clear from Public Health England; they told us they were just taking a precaution and my wife says she’s very happy with the way they handled it because it’s all about putting people’s health first.
“She’s been told we’re okay to go but if we develop a cough in a few days time then to self-isolate.”
