Couch to 5K to start back up in Redditch

THE LATEST free Couch to 5k courses are due to start this month across Redditch.

The nine-week course is designed for absolute beginners, so whether you’ve never run before, or you want to get back into being more active, Couch to 5K is an easy way of getting fitter and healthier.

Portfolio holder for leisure, Coun Juliet Barker Smith, said: “Couch to 5K is always one of our most popular offerings and it is perfect for those wanting to start their fitness journey after the festive period.”

Anyone that wants to ditch the couch and start running are welcome at any session, you don’t need to book, and sessions are completely free starting this week.

There are sessions held throughout the week at the Abbey Stadium Track every Monday at 7.30pm, every Wednesday at 7.30pm, every Thursday at 9.15am and every Sunday at 9.30am.

Runners can also join in at Stitch Meadow in Arrow Valley Country Park every Monday at 9.30am, and every Friday at 09.15am at Morton Stanley Park.

The weekly sessions are led by Run Leaders who hold official qualifications from England Athletics and provide a course which is fully endorsed by the NHS.

Leader of the Council, Coun Joe Baker, said: “With January being one of the toughest months for people mentally, what better way to take your mind of the pressures of daily life than Couch to 5K.

“It is one of our highest attended events and shows its success continuing into 2025.”
