COUNCIL taxes in Redditch are to rise by an average of £5 from April for a Band D property – putting close to an extra 10p a week on bills.
It takes the borough’s share of the council tax levy to £227.21 and represents an increase of 2.25 per cent.
The increase was passed at last night’s (Monday, February 20) full council meeting along with a raft of economies and cuts as the council produced a balanced budget despite a major reduction in its grant from central government and rising inflation.
All the Labour councillors voted for the measure which was carried 14-13.
It means the council tax due on a Band D property for year 2017/18 will be £1,651.65.
The lion’s share of that is taken by Worcestershire county council which last week raised its council tax take on a Band D property by £33 per annum to £1,155.31.
The levy charged by West Mercia Police remains the same as last year at £189.60 while the take from Hereford and Worcester Fire & Rescue increases by £1.53 to £79.53.
Residents in Feckenham will also pay an increase parish council levy of 16p taking it to £22.85, making a total of £1,674.50.
