CONCERNS for the safety of children due to irresponsible parking by parents has prompted a borough councillor to propose restricting waiting times outside Walkwood Middle and Vaynor First Schools.
Coun Tom Baker-Price (Con, Headless Cross & Oakenshaw) says something has to be done about the long-standing parking chaos on Tennyson Road.
Worcestershire County Council, the body responsible for parking restrictions, is currently consulting on the idea.
And Coun Baker-Price has won backing for the proposal from Redditch MP Karen Lumley who has been contacted by many residents concerned over the parking issue.
“Parking outside all schools is an increasing frustration for residents, but with two school in the same road the problems are magnified,” said Mrs Lumley.
“I welcome any move that will examine the problem here and propose a sensible solution or compromise that will help ease the problems for residents and address any safety concerns there may be.”
Coun Baker-Price added: “Since taking office in 2015 parking and road safety on Tennyson Road has been a priority. I have had numerous meetings with the police, parking enforcement, residents and the county council which have convinced me of the need for new parking restrictions. Karen’s advice and support in bringing about a resolution has been very helpful.”
