COUNTY council staff have been honoured for the positive impact they had on students during a local internship.

The facilities team at County Hall have been working with a group of horticultural students, allowing them to build up experience by supporting with the grounds maintenance jobs around the main entrances to County Hall.

The college has now recognised them with a ‘Working in Partnership’ certificate and trophy.

During their time at County Hall for five hours evert Thursday, the Supported into Employment students took part in some plant pruning, sweeping up leaves, clearing moss, and weeding.

Claire Sedgwick, facilities manager at Worcestershire County Council, said: “It has been a real privilege to see the students grow their skill set and in their confidence during their time with us, and we wish them all well for the future.

Carole Gurney from Heart of Worcestershire College, said: “The skills and relationships our students develop throughout this programme are invaluable and we’re delighted Worcestershire County Council have been so supportive of the college and our learners.”

The students can add the experience to their course in the short term, but also to their CV for the long term which might help them to obtain a job in the future.
