Creative minds at Emmanuel Church upcycle old school shirts into aprons

CREATIVE minds at Emmanuel Church have been busy turning old school shirts into painting aprons and fancy-dress costumes for children.

The church, based in the Ecumenical Centre in Redditch, played host to Councillor Joe Baker’s School Uniform Bank last month where parents donated their children’s outgrown, and no longer needed school uniforms.

These were then given to families struggling to kit their children out for school.

Church and community pastor Sarah Leeson said: “There were still loads of white shirts left over so we decided to upcycle them into painting aprons for children to stop them getting messy.

“We also made doctors’ outfits for youngsters to dress up in.

“At the church we believe it’s important to reuse items rather than chuck them away, to avoid them ending up in a landfill somewhere.”

Any playgroups or individuals interested in using the upcycled goods is more than welcome to call the church on 01527 65952.
