Crisis-hit Redditch school to become an academy

A CRISIS-hit school in Redditch is set to become an academy after being placed in special measures.

Roman Way First School, with the help of Worcestershire County Council, is now seeking a sponsor to take over its running.

A damning Ofsted report released at the start of February described the school’s quality of education as ‘poor’ and the curriculum planning as ‘weak’.

Inspectors said teachers did not have high expectations of their pupils who were making little progress in their learning and making the same mistakes time and time again.

Concerned parents attended a meeting recently to discuss the future of Roman Way First School after it was labelled ‘inadequate’ by OfSted,

Coun Mike Rouse, who has a daughter at Roman Way, said: “Whilst I have every confidence in the spirit and aptitude of Neil Johnson and Holly Adams, who have stepped up as assistant headteachers, this school still doesn’t have a headteacher on the ground.

“As the County Council runs the school they need to address this matter first and foremost, even if it means bringing in a temporary replacement.”

A school spokesperson thanked the parents who attended the crisis meeting earlier this month.

“We are happy to discuss any questions that parents have who feel they were not answered at the meeting.”
