Crowds fill Alcester for return of food festival

Redditch Editorial 25th May, 2024   0

IT WAS a day of food, glorious food in Alcester on Saturday when the annual food festival came to town.

The popular event, now in its 13th year, saw thousands of foodies thronging through a sunny town centre in search of tempting treats and thirst-quenching liquid refreshment.

Over 100 stalls offered an array of delicacies from biltong and brownies to pancakes and pizza. Local producers were represented in abundance such as Merrylegs apple juice from Barton, near Bidford and Wootton Wawen-based Vinegar Tips.

The Alcester Court Lleet was in action visiting various drinks stalls to conduct an assizes – the medieval equivalent of a food standard inspection – to declare cider makers like Hogan’s had cider fit for consumption.

Cafes and pubs were also buzzing with additional trade.

Organiser David Henderson, Alcester’s new deputy mayor, said: “It was a great day. We had 110 happy stall holders, a really successful school’s bake-off competition and thousands of happy customers.

“I’m very grateful to all our volunteers who made it such a success.”
