Crowds flock to Lions Funday and Green Fair in Arrow Valley Park

Redditch Editorial 8th Sep, 2021   0

THE community of Redditch came out in their hundreds last Sunday to support the Lions Funday and Green Fair.

Held in conjunction with Redditch Council, this annual fair had to be cancelled last year but it was clear local folk had missed this event as they flocked to Arrow Valley Park.

This year the ‘Green Fair’ element was much in evidence with stalls reflecting this with Fair Trade textiles, all organic compost for sale, wood carvings using local materials, beautiful cards that were all recyclable and much more.

The police were on hand to mark bicycles and give out information about safety when cycling while soldiers from the local 37th Signals Regiment were also in support.

Not only them, but Guide Dogs and Worcestershire Wildlife Trust were among a host of stalls.

There was music galore; The Bromsgrove Ukulele Band, Rock Choir and a very good young rock band from the Midlands Music Academy in Barnt Green.

All very different but totally entertaining, with crowds sitting and enjoying the music in the sunshine and singing along.

Children were not forgotten as Mr Punch put on two shows for them, with lots of ‘he’s behind you’ and ‘where’s the baby’ to which they responded in a very lively way.

Circus skills were also on offer thanks to Juggling Jim who came along to encourage budding performers and tight rope walkers to have a go.

The glorious weather also brought out the Royal Enfield Motorcycle Club and 26 classic cars all spruced up and looking splendid.

The Mayor of Redditch, Councillor Gareth Prosser, awarded prizes to the best cars and bikes in their group and the best in show.

He thanked the council and Redditch Lions for giving people the opportunity to take part in this fun filled day after the trials of the last year.

Mike Andrews of Redditch Lions said: “We’d like to thank everyone involved, but especially all the visitors who came along and made this day such a great success.”
