Cup of cheer from fundraising drive to help Studley Autism support group

LOCAL voluntary group STARS – Studley Autism Reachout and Support – held a fundraising coffee morning recently to support children and their families with an Autistic Spectrum Condition in Studley and neighbouring areas.

The group offers support through a variety of ways including parent meet ups to prevent isolation, off load and strategy share, Autism friendly school holiday activity sessions as well as their new sensory bag project which came about in response to needs identified by the families.

The bags are to be kept in key locations in Studley and contain resources for a range of needs and ages to help those on the Spectrum self regulate when they may experience sensory overload.

The aim is to enable individuals and their families to be a part of the community and to raise acceptance of Autism.

The initial cost of the first 10 bags was generously covered by the MPA charitable foundation but additional funds are needed to maintain them and make the project a true success.

Local schools have also got involved with Studley Community Infants, Studley St Mary’s CofE Academy and Studley High School holding Silly Sock or Odd Shoe Days to raise funds for the schools’ SEND provision and the STARS group.
