THE CUTE smile of Nancy Davis won the day for the judges in the Redditch Standard Baby of the Year competition in the 19 months to three years old category.
While the tousled hair and rosy cheeks of Ozzie Hemmings made sure he was very close runner-up in the minds of our judges.
The tough task of chairing our judges was taken by mum of two – and grandmother to three – Joy Hennessey.
She said: “All babies and toddlers are beautiful which is why it is so difficult to make these tough decisions.
“In my mind they are all winners, but by the rules of the competition two had to be chosen and in the end it came down to Nancy and Ozzie.”
A spokesman for the Redditch Standard said: “We’re delighted at the response we’ve had to our competition.
“Once again the people of Redditch – and their offspring – have come up trumps.
“We thank everyone who took part in the competition and all the thousands of people who took the time to vote for their favourite.
“I’d also like to thank the people of Redditch for their patience while we sorted out our IT glitches, but we got there in the end.”
The competition was run in conjunction with professional portrait photographer Andrea Powell.
First prize is a large canvas portrait of the winning baby plus a special gift, together worth £200, while the runner up will also receive a canvas portrait and a special gift together worth £100.
The Redditch Standard will be getting in touch with the winners as soon as Andrea drops off the prizes at our offices.
