Cycle beautiful countryside for a worthy cause at Hospice's ride challenge

Redditch Editorial 6th Aug, 2018   0

THIS Sunday, August 12, hundreds of cyclists will take to their saddles for The Great Shakespeare Ride 2018, the popular cycling event held by The Shakespeare Hospice at Walton Hall Hotel, near Wellesbourne.

Showcasing the beautiful Warwickshire and Cotswolds countryside, cyclists will ride three routes; a Friendly 50 km, a 100 km Challenge and a 100 mile sportive.

The routes take cyclists through quintessential English countryside, including charming Cotswold villages, such as Chipping Campden, with its honey-coloured buildings, and Winchombe and Broadway – the ‘Jewel of The Cotswolds’.

They’ll ride through Shakespeare’s county and its rolling hills and grassland, spotting thatched cottages, medieval churches, cosy pubs and tiny tearooms.

There will be food stations en route, a pop-up mechanic, provided by Cotswold Cycles and free post-cycle massages.

All under 16s will receive a medal.

Although on-line entries have now closed, there’s still time to enter. Cyclists may register at Walton Hall at 2pm to 6pm on Saturday, August 11 at Walton Hall, or from 6am to 8.45am on Sunday August 12. There will be an additional £5 fee.

The Shakespeare Hospice is also holding a Family Fun Day, from 11am to 4pm with The Great Shakespeare Ride, with a range of family activities and games, including archery and a treasure hunt, giant jenga, a skittle alley and quoit throwing set against the back-drop of the stunning Walton Hall, a 16th Century, Grade II listed building.
