Cycling race across Worcestershire to highlight the invaluable work of care services

Redditch Editorial 11th Jun, 2024   0

A FIVE-DAY bike relay passing through Worcestershire at the end of June aims to raise awareness of care services at the heart of the community.

Cycling from Sale, Greater Manchester on Monday, June 24 and ending in West London on Friday June 28, the Great British Care Cycle Relay will cover more than 300 miles to mark Care Home Open Week.

On day three – June 26 – the 67-mile route will start in Dudley and end in Chipping Norton, passing through Redditch and Evesham along the way. It will stop by the Millcroft Care Home, Alfrick Close from 10.30am to 11.30am and on to Evesham arriving at Cavendish Park Care Home, Offenham Road at 12.30pm leaving at 1.30pm.

Residents and families are encouraged to come out and give their support.

Care Home Open Week and the Care Cycle Relay are initiatives run by Championing Social Care, a volunteer-led group of leaders from the social care sector who want to shine a positive light on its work.

Director Ed Maxfield: said: “The relay is a fun way to highlight the amazing care work that is done across the country. Our theme ‘connecting communities’ aims to show that care is at the heart of local communities.”

Each day is split into three stages approximately 20-miles long and will start and end at a care home. There’s no registration fee or fundraising target as organisers want the event to remain focused on care and make it easy for people to take part.

Each stage will be led by a guide and refreshments will be supplied en route. Support vehicles will be on hand with bike spares, tool kits, and fresh water with the back up of medics to provide first-aid.
