Daredevil hairdressers set for parachute jump to help combat prostate cancer

Redditch Editorial 17th Apr, 2019   0

DAREDEVIL hairdressers at Icons in Crabbs Cross are going to be leaping out of an aeroplane in a sponsored tandem parachute jump to combat prostate cancer.

Hannah Toyer, Lucy Gilbert, Serbay Harnupdali and Henry Parker are making the jump on June 23 in Salisbury.

“My husband Alex thinks we’re mad but my six-year-old daughter wanted to jump with me!” said Hannah.

The quartet decided to leap into action after hearing how Serbay’s father-in-law battled prostate cancer.

“We wanted to give something back,” said Hannah.

“We wanted to do something daring as they’ve done so much for him, it’s the least we can do. Now we need just the sponsors.”

Serbay added: “In October 2015 my father-in-law went for a health check run by a charity at a local hotel.

“With no symptoms, it was a complete shock when the blood test result came back high for PSA, one of the signs of prostate cancer.

“After further investigations, tests and biopsies, it was confirmed it was prostate cancer.

“Luckily for him his age and the early prognosis enabled him to be eligible for surgery and in May 2016 he underwent a radical prostatectomy.

“The results suggested it was an aggressive form of cancer and we thank every day since that he is still with us today and all blood results to date have been clear.

“Unfortunately this is not the case for a lot of men.

“Please sponsor us to help this amazing charity to raise more awareness and to provide the services carried out on a daily basis.”

To donate the girls have set up their own justgiving page which can be found at www.justgiving.com and then key in Hannah Toyer.

The lads have done the same and their page can be found at www.justgiving.com and then key in Serbay Harnupdali.
