Date with greatness - Redditch engineer chosen for Gas Safe calendar

Redditch Editorial 14th Sep, 2023   0

A REDDITCH Gas Safe engineer has been selected to feature in a new calendar.

Richard Keeling (pictured) was one of 12 chosen over more than 152,000 others.

The announcement of the project comes during Gas Safe Awareness Week which began on Monday and runs to Sunday, September 11 to 17.

Richard, whose company Prestantia Eco Heating and Renewables is based on Royal Enfield Business Park, Hewell Road, said: “I was surprised to be chosen out of so many – it’s quite an honour.”

The 43-year-old suffered PTSD following a six-year career in the British Army, during which time he was stationed in Germany, undertook a tour of Iraq and became one of The Queen’s Guards.

He has now been in the gas industry for 16 years and runs his successful heating company which is continuing to grow in size.

‘Gas Safety Guardians’

In the first-of-its-kind calendar, Richard is one of 12 ‘Gas Safety Guardians’ celebrating registered engineers from across the UK.

The limited edition calendar from Gas Safe Register, the UK’s official registration body for gas engineers and gas businesses, also features safety tips each month to help inform and educate householders on how to stay gas safe all year-round.

Richard said: “As I always say to my customers, by taking care of your gas appliances and being clued-up on what the signs and symptoms are that something could be faulty or potentially dangerous with any of them means you are taking care of your home and your loved ones.

“It has always been a pleasure to work in my community, helping educate people of the possible dangers.”

Rob Denman, The Gas Safe Register’s head of professional and field services, said: “Gas Safe registered engineers are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about what they do, and the role they play in our communities – and so the calendar gives us an opportunity to champion and hero Gas Safe registered engineers, who work tenaciously to ensure the nation is gas safe.”

According to The Gas Safe Register’s statistics, one in four West Midlands homes contain potentially dangerous gas appliances, such as gas boilers, cookers or fires.

In support of Gas Safety Week, Gas Safe Register is running a Facebook competition throughout the week for a chance to win a £50 Amazon voucher.
