YOUNGSTERS across the town who are interested in becoming a cadet are encouraged to get their skates on if they want to apply before next Monday’s deadline.
Recruitment for the next intake of the West Mercia Police Cadets scheme, which begins in September, is currently open to pupils who are in Year 11 at schools across Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin or Worcestershire.
The voluntary scheme is aimed at giving young people a practical understanding of policing, whilst enabling them to develop their skills and further their career.
Cadets will gain an insight into police life through a variety of activities and help to make a difference to their communities.
Through the two year programme cadets will work toward a Level 2 Award in Leadership and Team Skills awarded by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) – an equivalent to a GCSE A* to C.
To apply youngsters must be eligible to start at a sixth form or other further education college, begin an apprenticeship or seek employment in September.
They must also be able to attend weekly meetings, and commit to 15 hours of voluntary work each quarter.
Email [email protected] to request an application form which must be returned by Monday (February 29).
